County Commissioner, District II

Genevieve Jackson was born in Fort Defiance, Arizona and raised in Coal Mine, New Mexico in the Tse Bonito Canyon.  She attended schools in Fort Defiance, Arizona, Gallup Public Schools and graduated from Valley High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  She also attended Brigham Young University and received her B.S. and M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of New Mexico  in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

    Ms. Jackson has been an educator and administrator in Central Consolidated School District #22, Window Rock School District and Gallup McKinley County School District.  She has served on various school boards and also served as the Division of Dine Education Director in Window Rock, Arizona. 

    When she was elected as the Shiprock Chapter Council Delegate, she served two terms as the Chairwoman of  the Health and Social Services Committee.  As an officer of the National Indian Health Board, she was instrumental in lobbying for the construction of the Fort Defiance IHS Hospital and the Shiprock IHS Hospital. 

    She has served on many committees at the local, state and national levels and is known for her work in health promotion and disease prevention.  As a member of the National Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disorders Advisory Council in Bethesda, Maryland, she sought funding for diabetes prevention for the Navajo Nation.  She also represented the Navajo Nation at the United Nations Declaration Conference on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Geneva, Switzerland.

    Ms Jackson has been the recipient of many awards, most notably, the Outstanding New Mexico Women Governor's Award, Trailblazer Award from the  New Mexico Commission on the status of Women, the National Organization of Women (NOW) and the Navajo Nation Council Delegate of the Year.  She is a published writer and hopes to write an autobiography for her 13 grandchildren.

    Her motivation and desire to serve on the McKinley County Commission is to improve roads, living conditions and seek economic development for her District 2 constituents.
